Clever Cakes:: Decorated Candied Flowers For Cake Decorating?

Most of us have heard about eating edible flowers in salads, but have you thought how clever it would be to add fresh or even candied edible flowers to make cake decorations look absolutely incredible. Flowers and other edible plants can add a beautiful natural and extremely interesting look to your cake decorating project. Whether they're fresh, candied, glossed over with egg white, they'll add an elegant and edible finishing touch to your masterpiece.

There are several different types of edible flowers that can add clever beauty to your cake. Look into chive blossoms, a mild sweet onion flavor that can offer a particular beauty. Nasturtiums, a flavor that is similar to pepper, and believe it or not, the viola's, roses, and even pansies can taste a bit like grapes. A few other edible type flowers and fruit are the flowers of Apple, almond, lemon, plump, orange, peach and even squash blossoms. You also might want to look into other edible herbs such as chamomile lavage, borage, and lavender. A few other edibles, chrysanthemums, lilacs, Jasmine, Mary Gold, geraniums, and even violets.

If you're not sure where you're flowers for your cake decorating project come from, perhaps it would be clever to check and make sure they're free of pesticides, unless you've grown them yourself.

Believe it or not, making candied flowers is a simple trick for clever cakes. Wash and clean your flowers and then blot them dry. Then take a small paintbrush and use egg whites on every side of each blossom. Place these egg coated flowers into a bowl that contains confectioners' sugar or superfine sugar. Then sprinkle a bit more on top, and then leave them on wax paper. Then, add more sugar until you're sure that each petal of the flower is completely coated. Leave them to dry for approximately 8 hours or overnight. Then you can store them, an airtight container at room temperature works great.

Remember, wedding cakes can be cleverly made to match the wedding flowers as long as they're edible. If your wedding bouquet is not using edible flowers, pick flowers that have the same colors, and then decorate your wedding cake with beautiful candied flowers that match the wedding colors and flowers.

You can use this clever method of candied flowers on fruits on your cake as well. Small fruits such as berries, sliced kiwi, sliced or whole strawberries, and many of these fruits believe it or not, you can find already sliced and frozen.

A bit of imagination, a few edible fruits, flowers, or nuts can make clever decorating a cake easy and look professional. Take your time, take one step at a time, and the end result will bring you and your friends lots of fun and enjoyment.
